Petition Against Sidewalks Sent to City Hall

Petition Against Sidewalks Sent to City Hall

Late in the evening on February 16th, 2021, the petition, “to oppose the implementation of sidewalks on St. Anthony Road,” supported by the signatures of over 140 residents of the neighbourhood, was sent to Mayor Ed Holder and Steve Lehman, Councillor, Ward 8.

The final version of the petition differed slightly to the original petition circulated and signed by residents but did not change the substance of the appeal in any meaningful way. The updated petition acknowledges that the subdivision is also called South Hazelden, and in two places adds that sidewalks would not increase accessibility.

The most notable update is the request that the petition be used within the public agenda to be presented to the Civic Works Committee meeting of March 2, 2021.

The petition included the signatures of 144 residents of Old Hazelden and seven of residents of other neighbourhoods, including North Hazelden.

We fully support this petition as well and regret that we were not available to sign it. We have lived in Hazelden for 40 years this spring and firmly believe there is no need for the proposed sidewalk. It will severely alter the unique character of our very special neighbourhood and serves no purpose.

We firmly support this petition as well and believe that there is no need to a sidewalk in our quiet and unique residential area.
Please add our names to the petition, we’re sorry we were unable to sign it in person

    1. James & Cheryl,
Thanks for the support. The sidewalk construction issue has been moved to a special meeting of the Civic Works Committee on March 15, 2021 and there is now the ability to add new materials to the agenda. I will see to it that your names are added to the petition.
